Based in Osaka, Japan, Kaneka Corporation is the
proud manufacturer of Kanecaron, the registered brand name of the
world’s leading modacrylic fiber.
|
| What is Modacryl fiber? |
Modacrylic fiber is generally called acrylic fiber,
which contains 35-85 percent acrylonitrile. While the fiber is flexible
and easy to dye, it is also flame resistant.
|
| How can it be used to make blended fabrics to
feel so real? |
The flexibility and luster of acrylic and acrylic-type
fibers can be freely manipulated yet still retain durability. It
is also amazingly strong, and. Blended materials are sometimes stiff
and irritable, but when the flexible Kanecaron fiber is added, they
can be made to feel wonderfully fluffy. These fabrics are incredibly
easy to dye, but it still retains its transparent quality. The blended
fabrics can realistically reproduce the qualities of natural fur.
|
| Kanecaron extinguishes itself when removed from
the flame. Why is this? |
For Kanecaron fiber to burn, it must have oxygen,
and the amount of oxygen in the air exceeds that in the fiber. In
other words, if there is no flame, it will not burn by itself. Furthermore,
when combined with a highly burnable natural fiber like cotton, Kanecaron
maintains its flame-resistant quality at the time of combustion.
This flame-resistant quality reacts against the flammable quality
of the natural fiber and slows down the speed of burning, thus isolating
the air and stopping combustion.
|
| What is this unique quality that prevents the
skin from burning? |
| Many synthetic fibers melt when heated. They turn
to liquid fibers that drip and stick to the skin, which can cause
severe skin burns. Kanecaron fiber does not liquefy even if it burns;
all it does is carbonize and shrink slightly. Therefore, the possibility
of injury is eliminated. |
